In WaterColor This November, Timing Decides Where You Sit

  • November 5, 2026

WaterColor's November starts on Friday night at Marina Park and ends on the last Saturday of the month under the Christmas tree in Cerulean Park. In between, the community serves Thanksgiving three different ways and runs a self-guided race the morning after. Nearly every one of these events takes anyone who shows up. Very few of them hold a seat for you. Your evening depends on when you arrive, what you carry in, and whether you sent your guests' paperwork two days early.

Mountainfilm Weekend Opens on a 5:45 Gate

The 26th annual Mountainfilm on Tour comes back to the WaterColor Marina Park Amphitheater on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, 2026. It's two nights of documentary shorts picked from the annual festival in Telluride, and a Mountainfilm presenter walks the audience through each program. The event page from WaterColor Inn lists the rules, and those rules set the evening's schedule:

  1. 5:45 p.m. Gates open. Only Premier Sponsors may set out chairs before this, and any other chairs placed early will be removed.
  2. Before the films. Event food, wine, beer and liquor go on sale before and during the show. You can't bring outside food, drinks or coolers through the gates, and bags may be checked.
  3. 7 p.m. Films begin.
  4. Halfway through. A 15-minute intermission. Restrooms are at the nearby Marina Park Pool.

The early chair rule makes arrival time the only way to get a good spot unless you're a sponsor. The size of the chair then decides where on the lawn you end up. A low-back chair can be no more than 30 inches tall at the back, with a seat no higher than 13 inches off the ground. Anything taller goes to a section at the back. The event page says the rule "will be enforced." Your tall beach chair is fine at Western Lake, but on Friday it means a seat in the back rows.

Each night has its own program, so the weekend pass gets you two different sets of films. Friday's playlist opens with Wheelchair Mafia, directed by Cade Martin and Malvina Martin, followed by Lindsey Hagen's Rodeo on Ice. Saturday's playlist opens with Amy Haggart's Tour de Durango and includes Finlay Woods' The Sound of Japan. Both nights have 11 films.

What a seat costs today, and tomorrow

Price also depends on timing. 30A's ticket update lists three tiers: $40 for one night or $70 for the weekend through September 30, then $50 and $90 from October 1 through November 5, then $60 and $110 on event days if tickets are still available. Taxes and processing fees are extra. Thursday, November 5, is the last day of the $50 and $90 prices. A couple buying Friday tickets at the gate would pay $20 more than a couple who bought them this afternoon.

In late October, the St. Joe ticket page still showed Friday, Saturday and weekend tickets for sale. It listed fees of $4.19 per single night and $7.53 per weekend pass, and it had no resident or owner rate. Anyone who's been before may have seen this reply on the SoWal forum's Mountainfilm thread:

"We Love mountain film it always sells out get em if you want em."

Children 8 and under get in free, and anyone 9 or older needs a regular ticket. The organizers say the program is designed for adults and that some films include adult language and loud sound. VIP tickets are limited to 100 guests per night. The event runs rain or shine, and tickets aren't refundable unless it's canceled or postponed. Pets aren't allowed.

Parking near the amphitheater will be limited because of other community events. The organizers point attendees to the public lot at the Van Ness Butler Jr. Regional Beach Access, 1931 E County Hwy 30A. If you live within walking distance of Marina Park, just walk. This year's Mountainfilm long-sleeve shirt costs $36. It will be sold at the event and at the WaterColor Store.

Thanksgiving Week Has One Reservation and Three Lines

Three weeks later, the same timing rules apply to the dinner table. WaterColor Inn's holiday schedule runs Thanksgiving week across four venues. Only one of them takes reservations.

Date Venue Event Hours How you get in
Thu., Nov. 26 WaterColor LakeHouse Thanksgiving Day Buffet 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Reservations required through [email protected]
Thu., Nov. 26 Fish Out of Water Thanksgiving Day featured plates plus the all-day à la carte menu 11 a.m.–9 p.m. First-come, first-served
Fri., Nov. 27 Fish Out of Water Breakfast with Santa buffet 8 a.m.–noon First-come, first-served
Fri., Nov. 27 WaterColor Beach Club Burn Off the Turkey Map pickup 8–9 a.m. Self-guided; results due by 2 p.m.

Everything else on the Fish Out of Water side depends on how early you get there. The restaurant's long Thanksgiving hours help. Turkey and dressing are served from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., so a late-afternoon table is a realistic plan for families who'd rather skip the noon rush. The LakeHouse buffet is the only seat you can secure ahead of time, so that email needs to go out well before the week of the holiday.

Burn Off the Turkey doesn't use a starting line. You pick up a biking or walking/running map at the WaterColor Inn front desk or the beach club between 8 and 9 a.m. Then you complete the route with your own tracking app; the Inn recommends Strava. Email a screenshot of your results to [email protected] by 2 p.m., and prizes for the top run and bike times are announced by email at sunset. Since you aren't racing anyone at the same moment, you can start any time after you have the map, as long as you finish before the 2 p.m. deadline.

One spot is no longer open to walk-ins. 30A's WaterColor guide, updated in October, reports that Gather Kitchen + Bar, just off the WaterColor Inn lobby, is closed to the general public. It now serves WaterColor Inn guests and Watersound Club Lifestyle members. The same guide says Scratch Biscuit Kitchen's current schedule focuses on breakfast and lunch.

Holiday Guests Need Paperwork Two Days Before They Arrive

Hosting family brings its own deadline. In February 2026, the WaterColor Community Association board amended its Guest Fee Policy. Guest wristband requests and guest fees now have to be submitted at least 48 hours before a guest arrives, and the full fee must be paid before the association starts processing the wristband request. Requests made with less notice are handled as staffing and capacity allow, in the order they come in. The association's notice asks owners to submit early, "especially as we head into the busy season."

If your family arrives on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the request and payment need to be in by Sunday. Policies like this one can be revised, and every household's situation is different. This post is general information, not legal or financial advice, so confirm your own requirements directly with the WaterColor Community Association.

Guests coming for tennis should also know the Tennis Center is still mid-transition. Construction began in February 2026. During the work, the five Har-Tru clay courts stayed open for reservations, drills and lessons, with check-in at a temporary pro shop trailer. The pickleball courts closed, and temporary gravel parking pads went in on Western Lake Drive and Dandelion Drive. The October 30A guide says the renovated center is expected to reopen in fall 2026 with six pickleball courts, a new fitness center and a new pro shop. No reopening date had been announced by the end of October, so check before you promise anyone a pickleball game. The association's construction notice also suggests the free WaterColor Trolley to cut down on parking at the courts. The trolley runs daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is booked through the WC Trolley app.

The Tree Lighting Is the One Night With No Gate

On Saturday, November 28, the Old Florida Holiday Winter Market returns to WaterColor Town Center and Cerulean Park from 3 to 9 p.m. It has horse-drawn carriage rides, local artists and vendors, photos with Santa, and the traditional lighting of the WaterColor Christmas tree. The WaterColor Community Association presents it, and the WaterColor Store stays open until 9 p.m. for holiday shopping.

The organizer's listing doesn't give a time for the tree lighting or name the vendors, so getting there by mid-afternoon covers both. From there the season moves into December. Fish Out of Water serves Christmas Day dinner from 5 to 9 p.m., again first-come, first-served. The WaterColor Store and WaterColor Kids take 15% off storewide December 21 through 23 and 25% off on December 24.

If this month has you thinking about a WaterColor home within walking distance of Marina Park and Cerulean Park, so you could leave the chair at home and still be at the gate by 5:45, Live Love 30A knows which streets make that walk easy and would be glad to show you. Work With Us.
