About Inlet Beach, FL

Inlet Beach is located on the far eastern end of Highway 30A, a scenic route that runs along the Emerald Coast on the Florida Panhandle. This is the beginning of the 30A area, which is renowned for its beautiful beach towns on the Gulf of Mexico.

The area has a lengthy history that spans thousands of years. Archaeological evidence shows that the area was inhabited as far back as 500 BC. Over the centuries, many native communities have lived here. The area began to be developed as a beach resort in the 1920s.

After World War II, the U.S. government invited veterans to join a land lottery for parcels of land in the Inlet Beach area. Many jumped at the chance, earning the area the moniker ‘Soldier’s Beach’. However, the true name of Inlet Beach was already in place and refers to Phillips Inlet off of Lake Powell to the east of the town.

Residents who own Inlet Beach real estate have easy access to other coastal towns in 30A and other northwest Florida communities via Highway 30 and the US-98. Panama City is a 40-minute drive to the east, Seagrove Beach is 20 minutes away and Destin is about an hour’s drive to the west.

Camp Helen State Park is just to the east of the community and is home to Lake Powell, an impressive coastal dune lake. Here freshwater pools mix with the saltwater of the Gulf. The park also has prehistoric middens, a historic lodge, picnic sites, and hiking trails.

Cyclists can hop on the Timpoochee Trail, which starts at Inlet Beach. The trail runs for 18.5 miles parallel to Highway 30A and passes beautiful sand dunes, state parks, and stopping spots where you can soak up vistas of the beaches and ocean.
